  • Saturday, August 3, 2013: (Nevada City) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (no alcohol, drugs, tobacco or foul language allowed) will be having a Solar Cook-Off and Potluck at 615 Hollow Way. Cooking will begin at 10 a.m., and the potluck will start at 4 p.m. Bring tasty ingredients of your favorite dish to solar cook and share.   • July 26-28, 2013: (John Day) This year's SolWest Fair at the Grant County Fairgrounds hopes to include solar cooking demonstrations, with classes for all ages, solar food vendors and a solar potluck. Since 1999, SolWest has been a back-to-our-roots education-oriented event with the aim of helping small businesses and sustainability-oriented attendees, but the fair is endangered by lack of funding. Consider offering what aid you can to continue the SolWest Fair tradition. More information...

  • Thursday, July 25, 2013: (Seattle) The 5th Annual NE Seattle Solar Cookout at the Hunter Gathering Place, 7744 35th Ave NE, will take place from noon to 8 p.m. If you want to cook with the sun, there will be people tending solar cookers starting at noon.   • Saturday, July 27, 2013: (Shoreline) The 10th Annual NW SolarFest is an outdoor annual regional event supported by the City of Shoreline, Shoreline Community College, Seattle City Light and many others. The festival is organized by the Shoreline Solar Project. The free event will run from 10 am to 6 pm at Shoreline Community College, 16101 Greenwood Avenue North, with the beer garden and the live music continuing until 8 pm.   • Thursday, August 15, 2013: (Dodgeville) Joel Goodman will be presenting drawings and model studies of the thru-wall fixed concentrator solar cooker he has designed. The fixed location cooker connects the cooking level directly to the interior of the kitchen at counter height. The presentation will be at the Dodgeville Public Library, 139 S.
