Tamera April 2014b

The Tamera Solar Village (also known as Tamera Aldeia Solar) is a prototype solar installation that aims to get energy to cook, pump water, grinding and electricity, without using solar photovoltaic technology. The project is the result of decades of research by Jürgen Kleinwächter and his organization Bomin Solar. The model has been designed for a fifty-person African village. This model is to be built and tested in the Tamera Solar Village, in Portugal. The Solar Village model consists in a mix of different technologies that allow for production, storage and use of solar energy.

The cooker consists of a greenhouse tunnel of 30 to 40 square meters, where a series of Fresnel lenses focus the solar rays in a focal line. An insulated black copper tube is placed in this line, and transports the vegetable oil, that may reach up to 220ºC. The greenhouse cover has a special coating, that allows solar waves (specially UV), usually blocked by other materials, so the plants growth is improved and the cover has a longer life. The hot oil is stored in an insulated cylindrical tank easy to build locally. With this system the kitchen can operate 24 hours per day without the use of batteries and provides of energy for a few days. The hot oil flows through the double plates with casserole shape where the cooking takes place. The oil temperature is as high as 220°C, which allows for frying, boiling and baking during the whole day. Temperature can be regulated and used in the same way as in an electric cooker. This cooker can be built locally to empower the local economy.

Tamera April 2014
  • April 12-18, 2014: Setting up models of autonomy - Tamera's technology team was happy to host the first “Introduction Week” of 2014. As in every introduction week we offered a brief and yet profound look into Tamera as a whole. Key members of the various project groups introducde our approaches to ecology, food, water, energy, community, love, sexuality and partnership and the creation of models which integrate all aspects of life in a healing way as one answer to the world situation.

A special mirror for the world - melting copper with sunlight - tamera free lab - daywalker e28

In October 2017—after 4 years of work—the Energy Autonomy Team from Tamera, Portugal presented the prototype of a new kind of mirror: the fixed focus solar reflector. This video gives an introduction to the mirror and shows a Free-Lab meeting and the presentations of the first applications.
