News and recent developments

Solar Clutch Ethiopia 2009
  • January 2009: In Ethiopia Steve Harrigan made solar cookers with the Ethiopian and Somali people at the Agape Reading Center. The Somali people are already refugees in Ethiopia and in great financial need. Solar cooking is a free source of energy to that allows them to cook without having to use firewood. An Ethiopian couple also was excited to learn how to make solar cookers because they run an orphanage near the Somali boarder and have 30 little mouths to feed 3 times a day! We made cookers from the wheel chair boxes that had been donated to the handicap people of Ethiopia. A double use of the resources God has put at our disposal. If you would like to help provide solar cookers for this orphanage please contact us.
  • July 2008: Stephen Harrigan reports: "In Feb. I had a great 3 week trip to Sudan and was able to cover both south and north Darfur. Also had a week in Ethiopia where a I left a few cookits to kickstart an effort there. Although the cardboard CooKit is still the first line of attack to use in Darfur and teach the people I have developed a cheap plastic CooKit with mylar attached that is absolutely awesome (See Poly-Furnace). It cooks great although a bit smaller than the CooKit. We have sent about 275 over to Sudan and have started a local effort here in Fort Wayne to mobalize the volunteer community. See Solar Clutch to see more of the local effort with making the plastic CooKits."
