Solaria

Solaria is a nonprofit association encouraging the shift toward a more environmental way of living. We strive to make clean energy available to as many people as possible. As our name suggests, we are specialized, but by no means limited to, solar energy!
The heart of Solaria remains the development of high performance solar concentrators built from recovered scrap materials. In addition to training volunteers, our workshops and research centers are dedicated to experimenting with new uses and adapting our machines to various local conditions. A water vaporizer hooked up to a turbine or a Sterling engine could transform solar thermal energy into electricity... ALL our results and all our designs are (and always will be) in the public domain, freely available to everyone.
Reducing our ecological imprint and in particular the green house gas (GHG) emissions resulting from our actions, is a priority for us. The benefit is twofold, limiting our impact on the environment while providing an example. We use the most ecological means of transport available when traveling (especially no airplanes!), and we cook daily on our solar cookers!

Solaria has produced two solar cooker models, the Petisos Solar Cooker and the Dolios Solar Cooker. The construction guides for each are freely available to download. They have been focussing their efforts in the country of Burkina Faso, located in west central Africa.
