Solar Cookers International hears reports frequently that the concept of soaking beans before cooking to reduce cooking time seems to be unknown outside of the developed world. Even in the US, where energy waste is the norm, everyone pre-soaks these foods before cooking.
E.com found that pre-soaking rice for half an hour improved efficiency by between 7 and 18 per cent.
