Mirror array cooker

The Mirror Array Cooker project was started in the summer of 2004. The idea is very simple, several small mirrors reflecting the sunlight for the same focal point. I resolved to make a small prototype of only 100 mirrors of 5 x 5 cm each, thus would have a final mosaic of 0.5 x 0.5 m, and be light and portable. I ordered the 100 espelhinhos for $25.00. In a timber bought two sheets of MDF, 60 x 60 x 0.6 cm and a ripa of wood 5cm x 200cm to mount the box. Aluminum profiles were used to support the frame of the stove. Once the box and frame were complete, construction of the collage of mirrors began. This was the critical part of the project because each mirror had to be well aligned to reflect the sunlight and allow it to converge at the focal point defined by the aluminum supports which will be subsequently placed the object being heated. At first I tried to do this using their own Sol Colei the first mirror for reference and follow pasting the other observing the reflection of the sun at the same point. This method proved very difficult though because it needed Sun to operate (at night it was not possible to run it) and it had to be exposed to the sun for long periods. Another method has proved much more practical and efficient. I designed a board a grade of the same size of the box which would be the mirrors.
