Morocco

  • December 22 - 28, 2014 (Oulad Jamaat): The Maoka project is located on a field, with a large house already fitted and which can accommodate up to 30 people. The provisional list of different projects:
  • Oven Construction
  • Develop the relaxation area at the foot of Eucalyptus
  • Develop the spiral garden / workspace
  • Cover the mud walls
Each project will be guided by someone with knowledge of each project. Each participant will be provided at the work site when the weather kitchen team party (1 time during the week) responsible for preparing the 4 meals for all participants. To support the mood of the event, it will be possible to support the construction sites with live music or with the reading of texts. Participants will be involved in the organization of the public Maoka Opening to the last day. Various workshops will be set up (plastic arts, dance, music, recycling), but also an exhibition of works of art, a souk and multidisciplinary performances. More info...

NGO Youth Volunteers for Environment and Development Committee of the District of Casablanca have the honour to invite you to the opening ceremony and closing of an activity called, 'Operation Friends of the Sun' (OAS) to be instead of Monday 04 August 2008 to Friday 08 August 2008 in the district of Casablanca, on the public plaza in front of the bar MIKOUNOUNOU. The activity will be in effect the production of solar cookers (boxes) by youths in the area who will be trained for the occasion. Indeed, three years ago that JVE runs in collaboration with NNV, a Norwegian NGO, a draft pasteurization solar water in the prefecture Vo. Objectives: To provide drinking water, strengthen the capacity of women and fight against desertification. The impact and enthusiasm generated by this project require constant availability of solar cookers, what the 11 women's groups with whom we work, unable to satisfy. This justifies the raison d'etre of this operation intended to educate more people on the need to switch to solar and behave respectful of our fragile environment. Thus, successor for 5 days, training, production, demonstrations, solar dishes, football games etc… according to the attached programme.   • September 24 - October 2, 2010: (Windhoek) The Döbra Solar Development Project will be present at this year's annual Windhoek Show to promote solar cooking and alternative energy production. The show has its origin in the agricultural sector, being the earliest backbone of the Namibian economy. The 1st Windhoek Agricultural Show in German South West Africa was held as early 2 and 3 June 1899, with 22 exhibitors. At that show, the farmers from Klein Windhoek exhibited a variety of products ranging from fresh produce to wine. More information...

  • February 28 -29, 2012: (Amsterdam) The first ISO International Workshop on Clean and Efficient Cook Stoves. The purpose of this conference will be to establish international rating standards for emissions from improved cookstoves. These rating standards will be used in the future to obtain Gold Standard accreditation, CDM certification and carbon credits for improved cook stove projects. There is no charge to attend.   • July 2011: There is still time to enter the Dutch Postcode Lottery Green Challenge. This is a worldwide competition where the winner wins €500,000, expert coaching and help bringing a new solar cooking product to market. Registration closes July 29, 2011. The jury will announce the finalists on September 1, 2011. The deciding round will be held on September 14th, and the award ceremony will follow on September 15th as part of the PICNIC in Amsterdam.   • Till May 30, 2013: (Nationwide) Schoolgen, a program developed by Genesis Energy to bring solar energy to life for children and schools across New Zealand is sponsoring the Hot Solar Oven Challenge. The competition is open to all Year 1 to Year 8 students in New Zealand in four divisions. Students are to research solar ovens, and then design, build and test their own solar oven. Nicaragua

  • August 5-12, 2013: (Jiquillio) Volunteer for one week with Color My World and the Hughes Family. Spend a week working in this amazing developing country, volunteering in the fishing village of Jiquillio and the garbage dump of Chinandega, Nicaragua. Activities will include: Working at a local elementary school with children, creating raised garden beds out of recycled pop bottles in a community garden, serving lunch in the garbage dump, teaching/training solar cooking methods and rescuing sea turtles washed up on the beach. Different solar cooking technologies will be discussed, as well as possible commercial applications each day. There will also be solar cooking demonstrations by Professor Celestino Ruivo.   • Friday, July 8, 2011 - Solar Oven Workshop The "ENGENHO&OBRA" (work and ingenuity) hereby make the call for your participation in a training initiative with the support of one of the founders of NGO, the ISEP (Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto) andl will be directed by the Engineer Armando Herculano.   • 12 de Setembro, 2010: (Salina Eiras Largas) Explore Figueira, irá dinamizar uma “ Oficina de Fornos Solares” na Casa Do Sal da Figueira da Foz (Salina Eiras Largas, Armazéns de Lavos), com o prof. Celestino Ruivo da Universidade do Algarve, membro fundador da "Solar Cookers International Association". No início da actividade serão colocados alguns alimentos em fornos solares a fim de provar a eficiência destes. Durante a cozedura, será feita uma pequena visita às Salinas, guiada por Jael Palhas e uma breve palestra “Potencialidades dos Fornos Solares” pelo Prof. Celestino Ruivo, seguida de uma demonstração da construção de fornos solares. Por fim, haverá a oportunidade de provar alguns “petiscos solares”. Para poder participar terá de se inscrever até dia 9 de Setembro pelo número 910 219 021 ou pelo e-mail figueira@explore.com.pt e terá um custo de 15€/pessoa. O encontro tem por base as palestras proferidas pelo Prof. Pedro Serrano, da Universidade Técnica de Santa Maria, de Santiago de Chile, e pelo Prof. Celestino Ruivo, da Escola Superior de Tecnologia, da Universidade do Algarve.

Para além dos vários modelos de cozinhas solares que irão estar expostos no stand das Cozinhas Solares da Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Universidade do Algarve haverá lugar a algumas sessões de construção de cozinhas solares de baixo custo do tipo "faça voçê mesmo", bem como algumas palestras sobre o tema com vista a uma dessiminação efectiva do tema.
