  • November 7: El Programa Argentina Sustentable y la Mesa de Consenso y Gestión del Parque Federal invitan a participar de la jornada Santa Fe Solar 09, a realizarse el día sábado 7 de noviembre a partir de las 10. en el CAMCO (Ciclovía I, a la altura del 4300 de calle Pedro Vittori) de la ciudad de Santa Fe. La jornada consistirá en exposiciones prácticas del funcionamiento de distintos equipos de la energía solar: colectores, calefones, cocinas y hornos solares. Además, habrá charlas explicativas y demostraciones de cocineros que elaboran sus productos en cocinas solares y se realizará el lanzamiento de la propuesta de Ordenanza Solar para la ciudad de Santa Fe. La finalidad de esta actividad es difundir las distintas tecnologías de aprovechamiento de la energía solar entre el público, permitiendo su interacción y familiarización con dichas herramientas. Esta jornada se basa en la promoción del uso de estas fuentes como alternativas al modelo energético actual, centrado en explotaciones hidrocarburíferas y nucleares, mineras de todo tipo y construcción de grandes represas, generando fuertes impactos locales, regionales y globales, como el del Cambio Climático.

  • 16-18 April 2018 (Tiemcen) - The Research-2-Practice Forum 2018: Energy, Water Security and Climate Change in Africa will be meeting at the Pan African University Institute for Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) in Tiemcen. Additional support from the German Government and in cooperation with a consortium of German universities (UNU-EHS, ZEF and ITT) led by UNU-EHS and the University Abou Bekr Belkaid in Tlemcen are jointly organizing the forum. The focus of the forum will be to promote and support applied and practice-oriented research and strategic partnerships in renewable energy, water and climate security in Africa.   • September 20, 2008: Alice Springs, located in central Australia, will host its second annual Solar Oven Bakeoff on September 20, 2008, as part of the Alice Desert Festival at the Olive Pink Botanic Garden. All are welcome to join in the fun and compete for the Green Spoon Trophy. Oven design and use of local bush foods are two of the award categories. Last year’s recipes included an Australian Quandong dish and a cacciatore. Respected food writer and cook Stephanie Alexander is among the judges. Burundi

  • ALERT-International aid organization seeks solar cooker proposal for bakery in Burundi by February 28, 2014 - The global relief organization R20-Regions of Climate Action has organized a solar bakery project in Rutegama, Burundi. Currently the bakery, in operation since 2006, has relied on wood-fired ovens, with the wood needing to be gathered by the women working at the bakery. They are soliciting proposals from tenders interested in providing three institutional solar ovens required to convert the bakery to solar. The ovens must be limited to three meters(a little under 10 ft.) in height, and if carried, weighing no more than 10 kg (22 lbs.). Update: new deadline of offers to be submitted by Friday 28th February 2014. Interested parties will find more information here: Invitation to Tender For Solar Bakery Project, Burundi. The scale of the project may be rather small, but the funding and implementation is coming from world leaders in the field of economic and environmental relief.

  • March 18-22, 2013: (Phnom Penh, Cambodia) The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is sponsoring the Clean Cooking Forum 2013, to be held in Cambodia. As with the five Biennial Partnership for Clean Indoor Air Forums, this will be an excellent opportunity for the household energy community to come together and share what is working around the world, what is causing it to work, and what we can do more of, better, or differently. This will an important event for solar cooking promoters to attend, share information, and show unity in a common mission. Julie Greene, the Executive Director of Solar Cookers International, will be attending and acting as representative for the Solar Cookers World Network. Canada

  • 2012 (Nationwide) Teachers, it’s time to register for re-energy.ca’s 2011/12 Solar Oven Challenge. Students build, test, and bake with solar ovens using the construction plans provided at re-energy.ca, or using plans of their own design. You submit photos and descriptions of their creations, and in June, prizes are awarded to the class or group with the best submissions. Open to all Canadians, participants have ranged from grades 3 to 12, and from science classes to environmental clubs. To see past winners and submissions and to learn more about GreenLearning’s Solar Oven Challenge, visit the re-energy.ca website. If you’re not in Canada, the activity itself is still interesting and can be used – it’s only the contest that is restricted. Submission deadline with projects has been extended to June 8th, 2012. Classes and other groups participating in our annual Solar Oven Challenge can collaborate with one another at COOL 2.0. On the COOL 2.0 website, teachers can do it all: find the solar oven resources, pose questions to one another, discuss their class projects, and share project stories and photos.   • Sunday, August 19, 2012: (Halton Hills, Ontario) The Great Solar Cook-Off Contest is taking place at the Willow Park Ecology Centre (WPEC) from 2 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. This year the centre is encouraging groups (families, friends, co-workers etc.) to create their own solar cooking device and enter it in the cooking challenge. You can create your own model, or you can check out the WPEC website for links for easy and cost-effective suggestions. It is important to note that you need to build your solar cooker before the event as the challenge requires you to cook something in it.   • June 1, 2008: A fundraising event called “Christmas in June for Darfur” is being held at the Unitarian Church of Montreal 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday June 1 to benefit Darfuri women refugees, Save Darfur Canada has announced. The church is located at 5035 De Maisonneuve West. The funds will be raised through the sale of gift cards to buy solar cookers at $15 each. This is an overview workshop of solar energy technologies for the developing world. Participants will learn how to evaluate each resource and plan for high quality systems. Classroom sessions and labs will supplement field experience.   • 13-14 April 2024 (Sorède, France): Solar cooking gathering at Sorède - An upcoming event for solar cooks in southern France, a few miles from the French and Spanish border, at the site of the historically famous Sorède solar furnace (Mas del Ca) built in 1900. On Saturday, there will be a workshop for solar cooks, led by Celestino Ruivo. Participants will be introduced to different types of solar cookers, and shown how to construct their own funnel cooker. The cost is EUR 15 , or EUR 25 if you want materials to be provided for you to make your own reflector. If the weather is good, there will be a solar cooked lunch.
