Promotion of SK14 Solar Cookers through an Eco Center- Case Study of a Unique North-South Co-operation - Dr. Shirin Gadhia (January 2009)
A project was initiated between a group of school children in Austria and Eco Center ICNEER, to raise funds for solar cookers, and make them available to those who can not afford them. The unique feature of the program was that it involved a joint effort with so many participants of varied backgrounds. Starting with Eco Center ICNEER, their Indian partner NGO Barli Development Institute for Rural Women of Indore, NEDCAP of AP from the North, the school students and teachers of Austria, and NGOs Intersol and Plage.
Not only were the solar cookers made available, they provided the recipients with a means to generate income with the ability to produce baked goods for sale. It is a case study of North-South cooperation, and a model for replication for other places in the world. Always though, first by adapting the approach to local conditions.
