Description Edit

Drilling of a tubewell in Gao, Mali, using a low-cost hand auger. Water was found at around 4.5 metres and drilling continued to a depth of 8.9 metres. Using this technology, a water point fitted with a rope and washer pump costs about 1.4 million FCFA, less than half the cost for a hand dug well of a similar depth. The cost of the hand auger equipment is 120,000 FCFA. This work is financed by the European Community Humanitarian Office. See our website www.sahelnutrition.org
