Building a parabolic cooker from a Direct TV dish (click to enlarge).

The Direct TV Parabolic Solar Cooker was designed by Ranyere Bezerra using metallic tape to cover the inner surface of a Direct TV antenna.  The antenna is supported on a standard oscillating fan base and makes use of metal hardware as a frame for adjusting the dish and for supporting cookware.

  • Care needs to be taken when reconfiguring these satellite dishes to be parabolic solar cookers. The focus point is up near eye level as the dish is quite shallow. Be sure to wear dark glasses. Storage needs to consider avoiding random sun angles that may be a fire hazard.
