Developmental Association for Renewable Energies (DARE) has been involved in solar cooking since 2003. They are working with the following types of cookers: parabolic reflectors, SK-14, ULOG box cooker. DARE began teaching 2006. They taught 14 users in 2007 and sold 26 cookers with 4 subsidized. DARE has empowered 124 people in Nigeria.
D.A.R.E is a non-profit, non-partisan and non-confessional NGO. Our mission is to create awareness among the populace of the northern States of Nigeria on the hazards of wood logging and the subsequent consequence of desert encroachment it engenders. At the same time, it aims at promoting the sustainable management of natural resources as well as renewable energy sources and the use of these resources to enhance local economic growth & sustainable development by working in partnership with rural population and local entrepreneurs, across the whole country. Our activities include environmental protection, provision of clean energy services to meet the needs of suburban, rural and remote areas using renewable energy technologies to provide
- technology transfer and the training of local technicians
- clean drinking water supply
- electricity using PV installations
- technology transfer and the training of local technicians
- delivery of enterprise development services and expertise for rural companies in the clean energy sector
D.A.R.E also aims to participate in Energy & Environment Policy Work with the Federal Government of Nigeria. Already contact has been established with major governmental organisations active in this sector.
