Start by choosing a cooker design type based on your requirements. This table shows the most common types. See Compendium of solar cooker designs for more selections.

Common Cooker Designs

Type	Advantages	Disadvantages
Box cooker	You can cook in multiple pots simultaneously,	Construction time much longer than panel, Can't fry foods.
Panel cooker	Easy and cheap to make.	Lower temperatures. Vulnerable to wind. Can't fry foods.
Parabolic cooker	Cooks as fast as a conventional stove. Can fry foods.	Tricky to make without imported materials. Requires periodic realignment to the sun. Can damage eyes.
