Solar Cooking continues to evolve, and some solar cookers benefit from a tracking system which keeps the cooker oriented to the sun for maximum performance. Typically, cookers employing a solar concentrator like a parabolic solar cooker cook at high temperatures and benefit most from a tracking system, as they deliver a precise focus of the sunlight onto a cooking vessel. Solar box cookers and solar panel cookers usually may only require a reorientation adjustment twice during a typical three hour cooking period.

Early tracking systems were based on clockwork mechanical mechanisms, while recent developments have been made using electronic monitoring systems to activate a motorized turntable supporting the solar cooker.
