A team of 8 volunteers from Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Trumbull, Connecticut returned from a trip to Pageri, Sudan in the summer of 2009 where they introduced Solar Cookers International's CooKit as an alternative to open flame cooking to the women of a church they were visiting. They spent 5-6 hours every day for almost two weeks teaching and getting to know the women. By the middle of that time, they had 6 cookers going daily with Sudanese food staples: rice; beans; greens; goat, cow, or chicken meat; and yeast bread. The Sudanese women were initially entertained by the idea of solar cooking, but soon realized that they could have prepared their families' rice and beans before coming to class, and then would have had a good portion of dinner finished and waiting for them at home.

They left 6 cookers with the most receptive women in the hopes that they would regularly incorporate solar cookers in their cooking methods. They are also shipping 40+ additional cookers the Sudanese congregation this year.
