  • Thursday, January 17, 2013: The Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) will present a webinar on Cookstove Durability Testing at 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time(15:00 – 16:30 Coordinated Universal Time). Hear the results of durability testing, and how they are being used, from experienced designers and technicians.   • March 18-22, 2013: (Phnom Penh) The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is sponsoring the Clean Cooking Forum 2013, to be held in Cambodia next spring. As with the five Biennial Partnership for Clean Indoor Air Forums, this will be an excellent opportunity for the household energy community to come together and share what is working around the world, what is causing it to work, and what we can do more of, better, or differently.   • Saturday, May 18, 2013: (Sunnyvale) Full Circle Farm, 1055 Dunford Way, is offering a solar cooker construction workshop 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. In the class we will make homemade solar ovens from simple materials you have at home. We will make a solar panel cooker and a solar box cooker. We will also have a ‘sport’ solar oven from the Solar Oven Society to examine, and see how it performs. More information...
  • Saturday, May 18, 2013: (Vacaville) A new Solar Cooking/Build a Solar Cooker course is being offered by the City of Vacaville’s Community Services Department that will teach participants the benefits of cooking with sunshine. Participants in this class will create an economical, portable solar cooker and receive instruction on essential solar cooking tips. It’s a great way to add solar cooking to your camping/backpacking adventures or emergency preparedness plan. The one day class is from 10 a.m - noon. Registration information...
  • Sunday, May 26, 2013: (Carmichael) Solar Cooking with Denis Zanchi at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Ancil Hoffman County Park from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. With summer around the corner, it’s time to explore solar cooking. Discover how easy it is cook a variety of foods using the sun. Space is limited so come early. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Sign-ups taken the day of the event. It is recommended arriving 30 minutes prior to start time. Donations gratefully accepted. There is a $5 per car admission county entrance fee into Ancil Hoffman Park (Free to members).   • Saturday June 15, 2013: (Victorville) The Mojave Environmental Education Consortium is hosting its first Solar Oven Cook-Off Competition for teams of High Desert students from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the MDAQMD office at 14306 Park Avenue . Teams of two to five students will build and design solar cookers and develop original recipes to cook on their creations. Teams will be separated by divisions of grades 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12.   • Saturday, June 22, 2013: (Fresno) Central Valley Solar Cookers will be holding a solar cooking festival at The Gazebo in Woodland Park from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. It will feature solar cooking demonstrations, music by Cerro Negro, Eva Scow, and Samba Central, and other solar science. A Parasol Parade at 11 a.m. led by Samba Central, and a potluck food tasting for members, family and friends. Also a raffle and information on how to get started solar cooking. Please come join us to celebrate solar cooking and the summer solstice. Bring your Cooker (if you can), food to solar cook(or to share at the potluck - members only), parasol or umbrella, chairs, sunglasses, family and friends, and a spirit for adventure and innovation.   • Saturday, August 3, 2013: (Nevada City) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (no alcohol, drugs, tobacco or foul language allowed) will be having a Solar Cook-Off and Potluck at 615 Hollow Way. Cooking will begin at 10 a.m., and the potluck will start at 4 p.m. Bring tasty ingredients of your favorite dish to solar cook and share. If you don’t have a solar cooker, bring yourself and see what the excitement is about. Information available to learn how to make a cooker to use the sun to cook food.   • Wednesday, August 14, 2013: (Sacramento) Solar Cookers International is holding it's annual Shine On! gathering to pay tribute to the work of many who have helped teach solar cooking and water pasteurization around the world. Catch up with old friends and meet new ones. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. More details to follow.

  • July 26-28, 2013: (John Day) This year's SolWest Fair at the Grant County Fairgrounds hopes to include solar cooking demonstrations, with classes for all ages, solar food vendors and a solar potluck. Since 1999, SolWest has been a back-to-our-roots education-oriented event with the aim of helping small businesses and sustainability-oriented attendees, but the fair is endangered by lack of funding. Consider offering what aid you can to continue the SolWest Fair tradition. More information...
