Brazil

• September 18-21, 2012 (São Paulo) The IV Brazilian Solar Energy Congress (IV CBENS) and V ISES Latin American Conference (V ISES-CLA) have combined resources to sponsor a conference on the current and potential uses of solar energy. This will include both thermal and photovoltaic applications. Scientific papers will be presented, fostering an exchange of information and experiences between researchers, professionals, and students interested in the development of solar energy strategies. Canada

• 2012 (nationwide) Teachers, it’s time to register for re-energy.ca’s 2011/12 Solar Oven Challenge. Students build, test, and bake with solar ovens using the construction plans provided at re-energy.ca, or using plans of their own design. You submit photos and descriptions of their creations, and in June, prizes are awarded to the class or group with the best submissions. Open to all Canadians, participants have ranged from grades 3 to 12, and from science classes to environmental clubs. To see past winners and submissions and to learn more about GreenLearning’s Solar Oven Challenge, visit the re-energy.ca website. If you’re not in Canada, the activity itself is still interesting and can be used – it’s only the contest that is restricted. Submission deadline with projects has been extended to June 8th, 2012. Classes and other groups participating in our annual Solar Oven Challenge can collaborate with one another at COOL 2.0. On the COOL 2.0 website, teachers can do it all: find the solar oven resources, pose questions to one another, discuss their class projects, and share project stories and photos. India

• July 2011 - June 2012: (Maharashtra) International opportunity for testing solar cooker designs - Originally announced as a one-time event Oct. 11-13, 2011 with a related conference, the solar cooker competition has been cancelled, and instead there will be a year-long opportunity for having solar cookers and fuel stoves tested free. India’s Promoters and Researchers in Non-Conventional Energy (PRINCE) group has updated standards for solar cookers, developed in conjunction with input from SCWNet members. These universal testing standards will be used to evaluate the cookers by simulating real world conditions. Designers, manufacturers, NGOs and individuals are invited to submit solar cookers for testing, and need not be present for the tests. While there will be no cash prizes, solar cookers will be rated on thermal performance, cost of manufacture and transport, and user convenience. Send cookers anytime between now and June 2012 to: Prof. Ajay Chandak, PRINCE, Shamgiri, Opp Swagat Lodge, Agra Road, Deopur, Dhuli – 424005, Maharashtra, India. Include your usual instructions for consumers. If you wish your cooker returned, please arrange to cover return shipping costs. After testing, entrants will be contacted with results, and have the option of omitting their information in the publicly listed ratings. Arizona

• NEW: Saturday, 27 April 2024 (Tucson, Arizona): 39th Annual Solar Potluck at Catalina State Park - Citizens for Solar will hold their annual solar potluck once again at Catalina State Park, 11570 N Oracle Rd. The event begins at noon and runs to sunset. Solar cooked food will be provided all day, along with solar displays and exhibitors. The solar potluck dinner at 5:00 pm – Come out and cook with us*, or bring a dish or beverage to share, as well as your own plate and utensils. Entrance into the solar potluck is free, but there is $7/car entrance fee to Catalina State Park. The potluck will be held at the Gila Monster group area, park in the Flycatcher area. *If you plan to cook with us, please let us know you're coming.
