Canada

• June 3, 2011: Registration is now open for the 2010/11 Solar Oven Challenge. GreenLearning Canada hosts this popular renewable energy challenge for Canadian classes every year. Students build, test and bake with solar ovens using the solar oven construction plan provided at re-energy.ca , or using plans of their own design. In the past, participants have ranged from grade 3 through to grade 12, and from science classes to environmental clubs. The Solar Oven Challenge is open to all Canadian students. Teachers, register your class by sending an email with your name, school, grade, address, and phone number to Kathy Worobec at GreenLearning Canada. • November 19-20th, 2010: (Hannover) The first German Transition Conference will be held in Hannover. All those wishing to contribute and learn about the Transition movement of change in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Benelux countries are invited. People involved with successful Transition projects will share their experiences, and numerous lectures and workshops on all areas of the energy and culture change are planned. • November 23-25, 2010: (Nairobi) The Sudanese Summit, taking place this November in Nairobi, is a dynamic conference to build grassroots leadership, strengthen Sudanese civil society, and support peace and stability in Sudan. As the January 9, 2011 referendum approaches, the Sudanese Summit aims to ensure that our young people, and fellow brothers and sisters are committed to peace and change through responsible action. Two days of inspiring talks are planned by a diverse group of leaders from South Sudan (or related to Sudan), musical performances, film screenings and theater. • December 1-9, 2010: (Totogalpa) Sustainable Community Development - Renewable Energy for Rural Villages through Solar Energy International. Learn about renewable energy technologies for the developing world in the developing world! This workshop will include classroom sessions, and a lot of hands-on field work including installing a PV system on a rural health center or community center, building solar cookers, and building your own solar battery charger. • February 17, 2011: (Totogalpa) The Solar Women of Totogalpa and Eco-Zone Explorers have partnered to offer a two week tour to the remote village of Totogalpa for a solar cooking workshop, both making and baking with a solar oven. • February, 21 -26, 2011: (Lima) The 5th Biennial Partnership for Clean Indoor Air(PCIA) Forum. The world’s leading household energy and health experts will gather and offer five days of dynamic workshops, technical presentations and stories from successful programs around the world. Topics include stove performance standards and testing, monitoring and evaluation, carbon financing, expanded commercial markets, recent research outcomes, community engagement and much more. • November 7-9, 2010: (Sacramento) Emerging Technologies Summit at the Sacramento Convention Center. Explore new technologies and learn about key policy considerations at local, state and national levels. Top industry experts will discuss the latest innovations. • Saturday, November 13, 2010: (Sacramento) Macy's Community Shoppping Day provides local non-profit organizations the opportunity to raise funds and increase awareness of their programs. It’s a fun community event that will include live music, giveaways, food and gives shoppers a special discount on all purchases.
