Sanjib Kumar Rout, Chairman, C.V.Raman College of Engineering

The C.V. Raman College of Engineering is located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. While the college offers a wide range of engineering courses, many projects are directed at fostering at a sustainable approach for living in harmony with the planet and fellow citizens.

Sanjib Rout, Chairman of the school in 2014, has been involved with solar cooking for the last ten years, and has taken a personal interest in promoting solar cooking to hotel operators and management at larger corporations with the message that solar cooking will reduce pollution. Other key individuals at the school include; Prakash Parida, Chandan Sourav, and Nabadeep Patra.

  • March 2015: To recognize Women's Day on March 8th, Sanjib Rout organized a workshop on "Solar Cooking for a Healthy & Better Life" at the Bhubaneswar Club in Odisha, India. Its purpose was to create awareness among housewives, hoteliers and commercial organizations to adopt solar cooking as an alternative method for cooking.
  • September 2014: Sanjib Rout is currently working with some of the remote villages around Odisha to introduce solar cooking. This will eliminate the need for firewood collection for seven months of the year, helping to save time and expense for the villagers. The added benefit is less stress on their local environment. Currently they have distributed fifty solar cookers.
